Ready Mixed Filler for Quick, Clean Repairs
What is ready-mixed filler used for?
Ready-mixed filler is used to repair small holes, cracks, gaps and surface imperfections before painting or decorating. Because it comes as a ready-mixed paste, there is no need to add water before use.
Depending on the product, it may be suitable for plaster, plasterboard, brick, stone, timber and other interior or exterior surfaces. Once dry, many fillers can be sanded smooth and painted to leave a neat, even finish.
When should you choose ready-mixed wood filler?
A ready-mixed wood filler is designed for repairs to timber and woodwork, making it useful for skirting boards, door frames, drilled or screwed holes, nail holes and minor cracks.
If the repaired area will be stained rather than painted, check that the product is suitable first. Different wood fillers can dry to different colours and may take stain differently.
Once the repair has hardened, our decorating abrasives can help remove excess filler and leave the area smooth before finishing.
Ready mixed filler or filler mix: which is better for your job?
Ready-mixed filler is usually the easier option for small repairs, occasional decorating jobs and areas where you want to get started without mixing anything first.
A powder filler mix may be more suitable for larger repairs or jobs where you want more control over the consistency.
Before adding a product to your basket, check three things in particular: the maximum fill depth, the recommended drying time and whether it is approved for exterior use if the repair is outdoors.
Different fillers are designed for different surfaces and depths, so the right option for a shallow crack in plaster may not be the right choice for a deeper repair in timber or masonry.
How do you get a smooth finish when filling gaps and repairing cracks?
Start by removing loose material, dust and dirt from the repair area. Apply the filler using a clean filling knife or trowel and press it properly into the gap rather than simply spreading it across the surface.
For deeper holes, build up the repair in stages unless the product instructions say it can be applied at greater depth.
Once fully dry, sand the filler until it sits flush with the surrounding surface. You can find filling knives, preparation tools and other useful items in our decorating accessories.
Sanding dried filler can create fine dust, so sensible precautions are important. The HSE guidance on dust exposure provides further advice on reducing dust when working.
Choose the right filler with help from Haverhill Paint Supplies
The best filler depends on what you are repairing, how serious the damage is and whether the finished area will be indoors or outdoors. Taking a few seconds to check the product details can save time later and help you avoid cracking, poor adhesion or an uneven finish.
Browse the available sizes and options, choose the filler that matches your project and add it to your basket when you are ready to order.
If you are not sure whether you need a general-purpose product, a wood filler or a different type of repair product, contact Haverhill Paint Supplies, and our team can help you choose a suitable option.
